TVS Apache RTR, The Fast Just Got Faster
>> 29 December 2008
The launch of TVS Apache RTR FI 160 has added an another stunner on the roads. Stylish alloys, unique grab rails, classy silencer, larger & sharp lined fuel tank, all these elements combine perfectly to give TVS Apache RTR 160 a sporty eye-catching looks.
The Apache RTR 160 has been upgraded with electronic fuel injection(EFI) and becomes Apache RTR 160 Fi. The EFI technology has enabled TVS to boost peak power of this bike. TVS has priced the new model at Rs. 65000.00 (Ex-showroom New Delhi).
The Apache RTR 160 "Fi" features a naked chain cover, rear disk brake, tank cowl like in the Bajaj Pulsar 200 and a serrated design stickers (instead of the striped ones found on the RTR 160) which runs across the length of the bike.
It comes with digital dash - LCD speedo, two trip meters, clock, odometer, fuel gauge and an analog tachometer. Also has useful features like service and battery indicator. Another useful feature is the clip on handlebar for various positions.
Apart from the Digital Speedometer and the Petal shaped disc brakes which are "new" additions on the RTR Apache 160, there isn't much change in the looks compared to the Apache 160 non-fi. The rear is also same with LED tail lamps, re-styled silencer and CBZ X-treme type split grab rail.
The company has provided a visually larger size presence without the weight of the bike being altered. It comes with all new air scoops that help in quicker engine cooling and features data logging as in race bikes. These include 0-60 lap time and top speed indicators.
The tachometer continues to be an analogue one and houses telltale lights indicating low battery charge, service due and low fuel while weary looking indicators for high beam, turn indication and gearbox neutral reside separately.
The silver finish for the console as shown at the bike’s preview has been dumped for a complete black affair. LED tail lamps, which have become a norm of sorts for this product category with the Pulsar and CBZ X-Treme already sporting the same, make their way on to the RTR as well.
Main Features of Apache RTR Fi:
1. Digital Speedometer.
2. Petal shaped disc brakes.
3. Serrated design stickers.
4. Naked chain cover.
5. LED tail lamps.
6. Clip on handlebar for various positions.
7. Service and battery indicator.
8. The digital display has a feature to test the top speed achieved.
9. You can also test your 0-60km/h timing on the digital display.
10. Tank cowl like in the Bajaj Pulsar 200.
Yamaha FZ16, Lord Of The Streets
Main Styling Elements of FZ-16:
- Big center mass
- Tough looking front forks
- Tough looking chassis
- Mid-ship stubby silencer
- Super wide tyres
- Rugged shaped body parts
The Yamaha FZ16 is an urban-cool motorcycle built for great performance and easy-living functionality, because that’s the whole idea of a bike like this. It has got heart-pumping knockout performance and it’s got serious attitude on top of that, a lean and mean look that’s all about raw power.
It keeps it simple, with street-tough naked styling and super-civilized power delivery and a specially designed riding position that gives riders extra confidence at lower speeds. The meters on the FZ16 are installed in a Full Liquid Crystal Display. The speedometer, tachometer, trip meter, fuel gauge and other indicators are set in optimum position to keep the field of vision clear. Also, the engine starting signal is an example of the spirit of innovation.
The steel fuel tank with a plastic resin outer cover takes advantage of the freedom of shaping that plastic provides, giving the tank cover a powerful shape with modulations suggestive of the muscular body of an athlete.
To give a sense of volume to the machine, an external diameter of 35mm is adopted in a two-layer type exhaust to minimize the effect of heat on the pipe. The layout features a large-volume primary character on the underside of the crankcase. The muffler is an irregular shaped tapered type mid-ship muffler.
A Monocross rear suspension unit provides 120 mm of wheel travel, while optimized oil and damping valve specs help ensure agile running performance and handling. It inhibits bottoming while riding with a tandem passenger as well as providing a very comfortable ride.Unlike the Yamaha R15, the Yamaha FZ16 is a macho street fighter. The bike gets its looks from the global FZ series known for awesome looks and tremendous power.
The petrol tank, silensor, the yellow-gold plated rear shock absorber and fat tyres give enough clues to the true strength of the Yamaha FZ16 motorcycle - torque that is a bit higher than the 160 Apache RTR and tuned for acceleration and mid-range than outright top speed.
Unlike the R15, the Yamaha FZ16 motorcycle is more a city bike, tuned for aggressive city riding than for pure top speed. The commerical launch will happen in the festive season of October after which the bike will go on sale throughout the country.FZ16 gets its DNA from global FZ series of Yamaha motorcycles. Fat tyre at the rear, beefy tank, beefy front fork compliment the FZ16’s muscular character, which is all set to become a huge hit among the young crowd in India.

Fiat Linea
Design & Style
Designed by the Fiat Style Centre, the new car’s originality is summed up by elegant, distinctive styling, with captivatingly smooth, simple, uncluttered lines that give the car a dynamic, harmonious look.
The Fiat Linea is also unmistakably Italian, which confirms the brand’s intention to create a new Fiat family feeling, inaugurated with the Grande Punto and continued with the Fiat Bravo, while the forward, sloping windscreen, the drop-shaped headlights and the large front end sporting the new Fiat logo.
In line with the dictates of the new standards, the grille marks the dividing line between the bonnet and the front bumpers, and the latter taper off gradually until they meet the wheelarches. A ridge starts from the foglights, which link up to the sides, and incorporates them, linking up again at the centre with the lower air intake.
And finally, a rib between the headlight and the foglight makes the bumper look lighter and creates the same graphical motif. The sleek, faired headlights which extend towards the sides of the car suggest dynamism and a strong Italian imprint.
Proposed with a single body type, the car conveys an impression of solidity, robustness and roominess, which is confirmed by the generous dimensions. On the side the styling is cut through by a ‘slash’ which starts from the middle of the wheelarch and dissolves into the rear, emphasising the car’s dynamic look.
The emphatic, robust, muscular wheelarches give the Fiat Linea a feeling of strength and solidity. And the same reassuring impression is conveyed by the rear end, with its elegant uncluttered line.
Interiors
The lines that run inside the passenger compartment are harmonious and well balanced with the external lines, which combine with the generous glazing to create a friendly, light-filled environment that guarantees excellent interior roominess, and more comfort than you might expect from a conventional 3-box saloon in terms of ergonomics and space for the driver and passengers.
Driving is made particularly enjoyable by the position of the pedals, the steering wheel alignment, the position of the armrest and footrest, the excellent manoeuvring of the gearshift and the perfect visibility of the instrumentation and the main controls.
The instrument panel designed by Magneti Marelli has a clear family feeling with the latest Fiat models, with large, clearly visible characters, while the graphics of the instrumentation make the information easily and immediately legible.
At night, the orange illumination allows the pupil to focus more rapidly when alternating between the dark of the road outside and the luminosity of the dashboard. The rear seat is homologated for three passengers, and comes with a fixed or 40/60 split squab depending on the version. The rear seats are also fitted with Isofix attachments for child seats, and head-restraints are standard equipment on the side seats.
Fiat & Microsoft's 'Blue&Me' System
After pairing your Bluetooth mobile phone with the system, which you only need to do once, and by downloading your phone’s phonebook, you can make and receive phone calls simply by speaking: all the commands can be given without taking your hands off the wheel or your eyes off the road. Up to 5 different mobile phones can be paired with the system.
The Blue&Me device is built into the car and the control keys are on the steering wheel, so that you can search for a number in the phonebook by scrolling through the display on the instrument panel, or ‘mute’ the communication for a more confidential conversation.
With Blue&Me you can also listen to all your favourite music in the car, in MP3/WMA/WAV digital format. All you have to do is connect your Media Player to the USB port in a handy position in the centre of the dashboard: a USB pen-drive, an MP3-player or a smart phone, or even an I-pod.
When you connect the device to the USB port, the words ‘Media Player’ immediately appear on the radio display, indicating the music source you are listening to.
Safety
In addition to its excellent braking system, the Fiat Linea is also equipped with one of the most advanced ABS anti-lock braking systems on the market, complete with EBD electronic brake force distribution.
The latter distributes the braking force over the four wheels to prevent them from locking, guaranteeing complete control of the car in all conditions. The sturdiest components in the engine bay are positioned at a suitable distance from the bonnet, to allow the ‘skin’ of the bonnet to absorb the energy deriving from impact with a pedestrian’s head better. Then the new chassis, which was designed to absorb any impact very effectively. And finally, the contribution made to occupant protection by the bodywork, the bonnet, doors and facia crossbeam.
Engines & Variants
Linea will be available in two engine options:
- 1.4 Litre 95Bhp Twin Cam Petrol
- 1.3 Litre 90Bhp Multijet Diesel
Both will be available in 3 variants each: Active, Dynamic & Emotion. The fully loaded Emotion variant will come with Airbags, ABS, EBD, Fog lights, Alloys, Rear AC vents & Parking Sensors. It is expected that Linea will be priced from 7 to 9 lakhs.
